The Situation

netMethods has managed the infrastructure behind a custom application used by a government technology organization for years. The application supports workflows, data, and operations that public sector clients depend on daily. Over the course of the engagement, netMethods has taken the underlying server infrastructure through three complete lifecycle generations — from initial deployment through end-of-life migration and onto the next platform — without service interruption.
The Infrastructure
The platform runs on a multi-host VMware vSphere environment with redundant centralized storage — providing the high availability a production government application requires. Workloads are distributed across hosts with failover capability. Storage is centralized and redundant, eliminating local disk as a single point of failure.
The environment is hosted in an N+1 SOC 2 Type II certified datacenter. N+1 means the facility maintains excess capacity so operations continue even during component failure. SOC 2 Type II certification validates that security, availability, and confidentiality controls have been independently audited and verified to operate consistently over time — not just on paper.
What Ongoing Management Looks Like
Setup & Configuration
Each server generation began with netMethods designing and building the infrastructure from scratch within the VMware environment — hosts, storage, networking, virtual machine architecture, and security baselines — fully documented before the application team handed off workloads.
Day-to-Day Monitoring & Management
Between lifecycle events, netMethods handles performance monitoring, capacity planning, patch management, backup verification, and incident response. Environment documentation is kept current at all times — a requirement that becomes critical during migrations and audits.
Server Lifecycle Migrations
Each migration was planned with application availability as the primary constraint. Workloads were migrated using VMware live migration capabilities wherever possible to minimize service interruption. Old hardware was decommissioned only after the new environment was verified stable and fully operational.
Security Audits & Compliance
The environment is subject to ongoing security review consistent with public sector compliance expectations. netMethods conducts regular vulnerability assessments, reviews access controls and firewall configurations, and maintains documentation that audit processes require. Audit readiness is treated as an ongoing posture, not a periodic sprint.
